Pink Lemonade Party

Making it through our twin girls' first year was a BIG accomplishment for us! What a crazy whirlwind of a year it was as new parents of multiples... we laughed, we cried, we were extremely busy, we had a lot of fun! And after Sophia and Lily's somewhat bumpy start to life (they were born at 33 weeks and spent 4 weeks in the NICU), we knew we wanted to have a BIG party to celebrate their first birthday!

I decided upon a Pink Lemonade theme and went a little pinterest crazy finding lots of great ideas to run with! One of the first projects I did was to make the girls their very own pint sized pink lemonade stand. I found this darling homemade lemonade stand and used it for my inspiration to make my own! It was an easy and inexpensive project and came out oh so cute! I was able to get everything I needed to build it from JoAnn's and Home Depot.

We took a bunch of photos of the Sophia and Lily with their new lemonade stand and I called up my graphic design experience to make their party invitation with the above photo. Here's how it came out!

The girls are wearing one of my original Twinkie Jacks Boutique designs that I made special for their birthday. The Pink Lemonade Peasant Dress has been one of my best seller's on etsy!

Pink lemonade (or lemonade stand) themed birthday parties have been a hot trend this year! Check out this adorable photo that one of my customers sent me from her daughter's first birthday party... isn't she a cutie?!? I love the pink flowers on her lemonade stand.

While sewing my girls' outfits, I couldn't leave big brother out... so I made him a special outfit to match! :) I made Jackson a pair of shorts out of the same lemon fabric as his sisters' dresses and added yellow gingham cargo pockets to them. I appliqued a tie made from the lemon fabric onto a white t-shirt to complete the outfit.

On to the main event! The party! Here are a few pictures from Sophia and Lily's special day.

I put the lemonade stand on our front porch to welcome our guests to the party.

I decorated the mantle and put the girls' big birthday present (a wooden kitchen) in front of it since it matched so cutely!

pinklemonadeparty3

I got the cute pink and yellow polka dot balloons from The Sugar Diva, along with these adorable yellow and white striped paper straws which we used with the pink lemonade that we served in mason jars to our guests.

Here are a few closeups of the mantle. I framed a photo of the girls with the lemonade stand, and used simple pink flowers and fresh lemons in a bunch of different sized vases as inexpensive decorations. I also created some "button art" out of leftover lemon fabric wrapped around square canvases. I glued different sized buttons in a few shades of pink onto them to create the girls' initials. I love how these turned out! I also made the bunting out of pink and yellow fabric that I had in my sewing room. For the girls' party hats, I wrapped fabric around a party hat, trimmed it with feathery boa on the top ad bottom, and used card stock for the circle, lemon and 1. Have I mentioned how much I love hot glue guns?! :)

We served lunch and I kept it very simple since I went all out with the desserts. We ordered sandwiches and deli wraps from Publix, and served them with chips and fresh fruit salad. The beverage of choice was, of course, pink lemonade!

pinklemonadeparty10

For the dessert table, I made 2 kinds of cupcakes - plain vanilla with vanilla frosting (tinted yellow) and pink lemonade cupcakes. I used this recipe and they came out delicious - the frosting was amazing! If you've never checked out A Little Loveliness before, you should - Melissa throws amazing parties and has some really great recipes! I also made lemon squares (you know, the box kind!), and a lemon ice box pie (very delicious recipe courtesy of my good friend Stephanie). I set out some lemon rock candy which was a big hit too! The girls each had their own smash cakes.

I saved the Sophia and Lily's baby food jars when they were eating purees, and re-purposed them into party favors! I filled them with lemon heads candy and just tied some scrap fabric around the tops with some striped twine, also from The Sugar Diva. I set them up in our entrance-way on table under a mirror that I decorated with photos of the girls during their first year. I got pretty sentimental looking back at their newborn pics - they were so tiny!!

Here are some pictures of the girls during the party - eating cake (Lily was not a big fan!), playing at their water table, and opening presents.

Lily was not too sure about the cake at first.

Sophia dove right in!

Big brother Jackson was so happy to finally get his cupcake (he waited patiently all day).

The aprons and chefs hats are perfect for playing with their new kitchen :)

Another gift that the girls got... a MUST HAVE for every mom of multiples... a wagon!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Sophia and Lily's birthday celebration so much fun! It was such a beautiful day. We've appreciated everyone's love and support during their first year!

Now on to the next chapter in party planning... gathering ideas for my son's Lorax themed 4th birthday party!

  1. Their birthday party was so cute! You did such a good job on all the decorations and their outfits and food. I loved being a part of it!

Here's a picture I took of my lemon icebox pie for my family cookbook (I think you used the same recipe). :)

    1. Thank you so much Steph! I will always have great memories of that day!! Thank you for the recipe link - I will have to add that to this post. I was hoping you had blogged about the recipe before (so I could link up to you/give you credit) but I couldn't find a post on it when I searched your blog.

    1. Cassie, thanks so much! His windows are about 39" so I think I'm going to try for one panel split in two. Thank you for the helpful info! I'm enjoying following your blog and seeing all the creative projects you've been working on :)
